What we offer:

  • High school diploma completion through an accredited high school (not a GED)

  • ESOL Program (English for Speakers of Other Languages) with classes in reading, writing, and speaking

  • Flexible computer-based learning, so you can study on your own time—in or out of our classroom

  • Supportive, caring staff who are committed to your success

  • Connections to local services and enrichment opportunities to support your goals inside and outside of school

We believe in meeting you where you are—and walking with you toward where you want to go. At Barton County Academy, you’ll find a safe, encouraging environment, a team that truly cares, and a program that honors your strengths while helping you grow.

Rachel Ellson

Barton County Academy Director

My teaching background includes elementary, middle school, high school, adult education, and college. Many of my years in education have been dedicated to English as a Second Language and Special Education, my two Master’s degree areas. My first teaching role was as an ESL Director at a :earning Center, so I was excited to return to alternative education in 2021 as the Director of Barton County Academy. In 2024, I graduated with my Education Specialist degree in Leadership.

I believe in meeting students where they are. With personal connections to poverty, abuse, homelessness, disability, and neurodivergence, I believe that every student has unique needs. I can help you meet your needs on your pathway to success.
