ESSDACK Profile: Kristi OrcuttSubmitted by jpj171 on Fri, 05/02/2008 - 12:41pm.
“I didn’t know anything about teaching reading. I certainly wasn’t prepared to teach expository or technical text. I couldn’t even follow the directions to set the clock in my car. I didn’t read anything that didn’t have a plot.” Interactive Workshops: Kansas Career PipelineSubmitted by jpj171 on Fri, 05/02/2008 - 12:10pm.
ESSDACK is pleased to bring an Interactive workshop to your school to engage your staff in learning activities for the Kansas Career Pipeline. Lori Hopp, Career Development Coordinator, managed a pilot program for the Pipeline and she will bring her expertise to your school. She has many years of experience in the business sector and she will also give you some additional tips on how to help your students as they enter the job market. We will begin the day by analyzing the Kuder assessment results from one of our Learning Center students. Together, we will decide if our student should go to work with on-the-job training, attend a community college, or seek a university education. ESSDACK Profile: Glenn WiebeSubmitted by jpj171 on Wed, 02/06/2008 - 11:58am.
Glenn’s first teaching experience was working with a group of middle school students whose reading levels were at the 3rd grade and below. “I was clueless. The first month we read the required Ben Franklin story, made kites from scratch and flew those for about a week and a half. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing.”Since that August twenty years ago, Glenn has learned a few things. Mostly, he says, from watching great teachers and stealing their best ideas. Glenn was hired eight years ago to focus on Social Studies issues but these days you can find him working in a variety of areas.
“My first love will always be history but I’ve really enjoyed getting involved more on the tech side of education. There’s so much that we can do with new tools and teaching strategies to tap into how the brain works.”

Talk Supt 03 part 1: Jim LentzThis month we took Talk Supt on the road to the USA conference, held in Wichita, Kansas. We were able to get interviews with a wide array of attendees, and we'll present each of those interviews as a separate podcast. We didn't video these interviews, but we have still photography. We'll return to our usual format next month. In our first interview, we caught up with Jim Lentz, Superintendent of Augusta school district, and the USA Superintendent of the year. Here are the other segments of this month's podcast: ( categories: )
