Recognizing the potential to leverage group size, ESSDACK established a unique group-health insurance pool in 1991 underwritten by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas. The group has also established a stabilization fund, which is used to buy down premiums for members resulting in more stable rates from one year to the next.
Districts may choose to make individual or family coverage with $650, $1300 or $2,000 deductibles available to their staff. Districts can also choose to offer an option that includes a Qualified High Deductible with Health Savings Account Option. The deductibles in that plan are either $600, $1,200 or $3,000. Participation in the ESSDACK insurance consortium is limited to member districts and requires per-qualification. Application for participation must be made by February 1.
